New Online Record Renewal System
NCARB has improved its online renewal system to make it easier to renew your NCARB Record online. You will now receive e-mail renewal notices both 45 days and 30 days before your Record or Certificate will expire. Additionally, a paper notice will be mailed 15 days before your Record expires.

If you have allowed your Record to expire you will now be able to renew online through "My NCARB Record" rather than calling NCARB. The $225 reactivation fee will be waived for those who renew online within 30 days past their expiration date.

The new online renewal system is faster and easier. To renew online, log in to "My NCARB Record" and click "Annual Renewal Form." Follow the guided instructions to renew your Record. If you are registered in at least one jurisdiction, but haven't yet decided to pursue NCARB certification, the system will automatically identify you as a potential Certificate applicant. If you renew online you will receive instant confirmation that your Record has been renewed.

The new renewal system also includes a third-party payment option by credit card or e-check. After you complete the renewal form, you simply need to enter the e-mail address of the third party that will be paying your renewal and the system will generate an e-mail notification to the address. Upon payment, a receipt will be sent to both you and the third party.

We encourage all Record and Certificate holders to renew their Record online to help reduce our carbon footprint and to expedite the process. To learn about some of the benefits of keeping your NCARB Record active, see below.

A Great New Record Holder Benefit!
Registered architects with an active NCARB Record can now earn professional development units (PDUs) from mini-monographs printed in NCARB's biannual newsletter, Direct Connection, for FREE. With two mini-monographs released each year, that is a $70 value for Record holders. Mini-monographs are worth one PDU or continuing education unit (CEU) in health, safety, and welfare (HSW). Current Record and Certificate holders can earn each unit by taking the online quiz that accompanies each article.

Mini-monographs debuted last fall, with the "Hidden Risks of Green Buildings" in Direct Connection as a companion to the NCARB monograph, Mold and Moisture Prevention. A second, "Ethics and Professional Rules of Conduct: Distinction and Clarification" was printed in the spring and a third, "Building Envelope," will be included in the fall Direct Connection. Miss a mini-monograph? No problem, you can download a PDF copy of each of them from our web site in the "publications" section.

To take the quiz, log onto "My NCARB Record," and then click on "Mini-Monograph Quiz." When you have completed the quiz, your results will be available immediately and a certificate of completion can be printed after successfully passing the quiz. NCARB will report the continuing education unit to AIA at no cost.

Don't forget! As an NCARB Record holder you receive a $100 discount on all of our monographs! You will find a complete list of NCARB monographs and mini-monographs here.

Coming in September, NCARB’s Newest Monograph, Healthcare Facilities
NCARB's newest monograph, Healthcare Facilities, will be released in September and will offer readers an opportunity to earn 14 PDUs with two quizzes worth seven PDUs each.

Originally part of Wiley's "Building Type Basics" series founded by Stephen A. Kliment, Healthcare Facilities is your one-stop reference for learning about healthcare facility design. This monograph focuses on key trends in healthcare architecture that provide patients and staff with a fully supportive environment. Divided into four chapters, the monograph covers many of the unique features of healthcare facilities including: design trends, site planning, codes, energy and environmental challenges, renovation, and maintenance issues. The first chapter, "Prospective," is a wide-ranging assessment of today's healthcare field from the point of view of both the architect and the provider. "Ancillary Departments" examines three hospital departments from the perspective of space and interface demands: administrative, diagnostic, and logistical support. "Inpatient Care Facilities" takes up the issues of planning and designing patient rooms, nursing units, and an array of technical issues, including mechanical, electrical, lighting, and retrofitting. The last chapter, "Ambulatory Care Facilities," uses a series of case studies to focus on the wide array of patient services ambulatory care departments must provide in a limited area.

Look for an e-mail announcing the monograph's release in September!
