AK If an applicant doesn't complete the ARE within five years of the date of approval, they must reapply.

CA Candidates must remain active in the examination process to continue testing. "Active in the examination process" means taking at least one exam (pass or fail) within five years of being determined eligible or since a previous exam was taken.
IL Illinois has a 3-year eligibilty where the applicant must meet the Illinois Act and Rules. Every 3 years the applicant must be reviewed (both Direct Registration and CTS applicants) in order to be re-authorized to take the exams. THis is NOT a rolling clock.
MN If an applicant does not sit for any section of the examination for a period of three years or more, they must submit a new application to the board to resume taking the exam.
NJ Regulation NJAC 13:27-4.3(d) Each division of the examination successfully passed shall be credited to the record of the candidate and may be carried over for five (5) years after September 6, 2005, or the date that the division was passed successfully, whichever is later.
OH Beginning 1/1/2011, if a candidate fails to test (pass or fail) within a five-year period, all exam scores will be voided. The candidate will be required to reestablish their exam eligibility and meet the current requirements of the Ohio Architects Board.
PA PA Board does not accept any passed divisions that exceed five years
PR Puerto Rico law requires taking two exam divisions for Architect in Training Certificate renewal every five years.
TN Applications are held in a pending status for five years from the date of application, after which candidates must reapply. Candidates retain credit for any parts of the exam passed.
TX Texas' 5-year rolling clock took effect on 2-1-02. Some passed sections considered valid by NCARB may not be valid in Texas.
VA If all portions of the exam are not passed within three years, they must reapply and submit another $75 at that time.

AK Jurisprudence questionnaire (take-home questionnaire) and successful completion of a board-approved arctic engineering course.
CA California Supplemental Examination (CSE). 2010 administrations of the CSE are in an oral format. Beginning February 2011 the CSE will change to a computer-delivered format (similar to the ARE). Check the Board's Web site (
www.cab.ca.gov) under Candidates for the content areas covered, specific administration dates (2010 administrations only), and exam locations.
IL Must submit an affidavit stating that the applicant has read and understands the Illinois Architecture Practice Act and Administrative Rules. The Act and Rules are available at the following link:

DE If the request is an initial request to be sent to NCARB only then it is free of charge, i.e. an exam candidate that has passed all exams and is recently licensed. For those requests after initial registration, the charge is $16 whether to be sent to NCARB or another jurisdiction.
