Rollover to IDP 2.0

     

If you are in the process of completing the IDP, it is important to fully understand all of the rollover rules and how they may affect you. Since every intern has a unique career path and no two experience records are alike, the impact of the rollover will vary from intern to intern.

The Rollover: 3-5 April 2012

The electronic Experience Verification Reporting (e-EVR) system was shutdown at noon EDT 3 April 2012, and the new reporting system became available on 5 April 2012. [more]

• All experience submitted or approved in the e-EVR prior to the shutdown will be rolled over to IDP 2.0 in accordance with the rules in the [Interns’ IDP 2.0 Rollover Guide].
• Exemptions or one-time waivers may be available for experience that is in the "submitted" or "approved" status prior to 3 April 2012 [Important Definitions]
• The total hours required to complete the IDP—5,600—will remain the same.
• The total core hours required to complete the program increaded to 3,740 for everyone. This is an increase of 20 hours compared to the previous requirement.
• IDP 2.0 will apply to architects needing to document IDP for NCARB certification. [more] 
• If you have completed the IDP prior to 3 April 2012, you are not impacted by the new requirements.
• IDP 2.0 updates the IDP requirements to more closely align with the practice of architecture today. Changes were derived from the 2007 Practice Analysis of Architecture.

All experience is subject to review and evaluation by NCARB for compliance with the program. If NCARB determines that experience was invalid or was not earned in compliance with the program, then the individual will be required to complete the program requirements in compliance with IDP 2.0.

Splits and Combinations
Most training areas correspond directly to an IDP 2.0 experience area. However, two of the training areas are split into two different experience areas and categories. One IDP 2.0 experience area is a combination of two current training areas. [Learn more]

Core Minimum Requirements: Old vs. New
Several of the core minimum hours required for areas and categories changed. If you have satisfied the core minimum hours for an area under the previous requirements, you will be exempt from meeting the core minimum hours in the corresponding experience area under the new program. If you have met all of the core minimum requirements within a category, you will be exempt from the IDP 2.0 category requirement. [Learn more]

Waiver
If your experience earned through existing work settings exceeds the maximum allowable hours that can be earned in the corresponding IDP 2.0 experience setting, you may be granted a one-time waiver to the maximum allowable hours. If you are granted a one-time waiver, you will not be allowed to earn any additional hours in the new experience setting. [Experience Settings]
