Ava J. Abramowitz, Hon. AIA, Leesburg, VA, is a teacher of negotiations at the George Washington University Law School and the Catholic University School of Architecture and Planning, and serves as a mediator in the federal courts of the District of Columbia. Formerly AIA deputy general counsel and vice president of Schinnerer & Company, Inc., Abramowitz is the author of the recently published Architect’s Essentials of Negotiation. A senior fellow of the Design Futures Council, she is the first public member of the NCARB. Previously she served on the board of the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB). Abramowitz is a founding fellow of the American College of Construction Lawyers and was a member of its Board of Governors. Additionally, she has served on the Governing Committee of the American Bar Association’s Forum on the Construction Industry, which granted her the Forum’s Cornerstone Award in 2008, the highest award for service given by the Forum. Abramowitz also lectures nationwide on negotiation, risk management, and assertive practice.
