Mid-Central Conference
Gary E. Demele, AIA, NCARB, Orono, MN, is currently serving his first term as a member of the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscientists and Interior Design (AELSLAGID). He was board treasurer in 2008-2009 and board vice chair in 2009-2010. His NCARB service began in 1989 when he volunteered to grade and eventually master grade the ARE. In 1995 and 1996 he was chair of the ARE Grading Subcommittee for Building Design. In 2007, he continued his NCARB service on the Committee on the Intern Development Program, and in 2009-2010 was a member of the Regional Chairs Committee and chair of the IDP Programs Development Task Force. In spring 2010, Demele was elected as director for the Mid-Central Conference (Region 4) after serving as the regional chair (2009) and treasurer (2008).
His service to AIA includes eight years as state IDP coordinator for AIA Minnesota and two years on the IDP Advisory Committee (IDPAC), where he chaired the IDP Firm of the Year jury from 2005-2007.
He is vice president of Busch Architects, Inc. in Saint Paul, MN. The practice is focused on educational, religious, civic, athletic facilities, and commercial projects. A graduate from the College of Environmental Design at the University of California, Berkeley, he holds an NCARB Certificate and is licensed in California, Colorado, Massachusetts, and Minnesota. Demele has been a longtime mentor in the College of Design at the University of Minnesota and has held adjunct faculty teaching positions at several NAAB-accredited programs in Boston, MA.
