The NCARB Grant for the Integration of Practice and Education in the Academy and the NCARB Prize for Creative Integration of Practice and Education in the Academy focus on the relationship between education and practice. The NCARB Grant provides funding for new initiatives that integrate practice and education and address specific program criteria. The NCARB Prize (2001-2011) honored completed and ongoing classroom, seminar, and studio projects that integrated the practice of architecture with the education of future architects. NCARB Grant
The NCARB Grant was launched in 2006. It builds upon the success of the NCARB Prize and provides funding for new initiatives and concepts to integrate practice and education in the academy. As a separate funding venture, NCARB Grants are designed to help schools implement new programs that merge practice and education in a classroom, seminar, or studio setting. [more]
NCARB Prize
The NCARB Prize was initiated in 2001 in response to the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching’s report, Building Community: A New Future for Architecture Education and Practice. The NCARB Prize Program was designed to encourage, reward, and showcase diverse programs and activities that wholly integrate practice and education in an academic setting. NCARB Grant and NCARB Prize Background
The NCARB Grant and the NCARB Prize were initiated in response to Building Community: A New Future for Architectural Education, a report that drew attention to divide between architecture schools and real-world practice. Response to both programs demonstrates that they are highly valued by the academy and the profession and that they have significantly increased the involvement of practicing architects in the education of future architects. Looking Ahead: The 2011 NCARB Grant
NCARB is increasing its support for the academy's efforts to integrate the practice of architecture with the education of future architects by increasing the 2011 NCARB Grant award amount to $75,000. The criteria for the 2011 NCARB Grant will increasingly focus on the proposal’s effectiveness in addressing a variety of issues. [
