While a slow economy may be making it harder for prospective architects to find valuable work experience, NCARB and the AIA are making sure that opportunities for students, interns, and the next generation of architects have never been greater.

Highlighting the energy and innovation that occurs when practitioners, educators, and students come together on projects funded through the NCARB Grant program, NCARB moderated an interactive panel discussion on connecting education and practice during the 2012 AIA National Convention.

A delegation from the Korea Institute of Registered Architects (KIRA) met with NCARB leadership in Washington, DC, on 17 May 2012 to learn more about NCARB’s structure and its role in regulating the practice of architecture in the United States.

The Savannah College of Art and Design is pleased to announce the appointment of Paris Prize-winning architect and educator Greg Hall, Ph.D., AIA, NCARB, as chair of the SCAD architecture program.

NCARB President Scott C. Veazey led the Board of Directors through three full days of presentations and discussions on Council finances, long-range strategic issues, resolutions, and items that came up from a variety of NCARB committees.

The NCARB communications team has been awarded several Hermes Creative Awards, an international competition for creative professionals involved in the concept, writing, and design of traditional and emerging media.

NCARB Outreach was invited to deliver presentations on “Designing Your Future: Creating Value in Your Career” at the American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS) regional conferences held during March and April.

In order to allow for more participation in the survey, the deadline for completion has been extended to Sunday, May 6.

The five presidents of ACSA, AIA, AIAS, NAAB, and NCARB encourage you to take the 2012 NCARB Practice Analysis of Architecture.

NCARB has launched the final phase of IDP 2.0, culminating a three-year, phased rollout of the most significant update to the program in more than 30 years. IDP 2.0 includes simplified experience settings, new experience categories and areas, and an enhanced online reporting system.

We know there are a lot of demands on your time, but when it comes to planning for the programs that impact the profession—like the Intern Development Program and the Architect Registration Examination, your insight and expertise is invaluable.

Recently, the NCARB Outreach team connected with nearly 2,000 students and professionals, crisscrossing the country to hold events in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Oklahoma, Michigan, Ohio, Texas, Kansas, Virginia, Massachusetts, and New York.

This week, the 2012 NCARB Practice Analysis of Architecture Survey is being e-mailed to thousands of architects, interns, and educators across the country. Surveying the profession to identify the tasks and knowledge/skills necessary for the independent practice of architecture will provide essential insight into current and future trends.

On 3-5 April 2012, NCARB will implement the final phase of IDP 2.0. This week is your last opportunity to submit experience in advance of the rollover to IDP 2.0.

All NCARB systems will be offline beginning noon on 3 April 2012 as we perform a major upgrade to our systems. We expect that the upgrade will be completed and access restored on 5 April 2012.

Interns have been advised to submit their experience in the e-EVR well in advance of the April 3 rollover to IDP 2.0, but supervisors and mentors do not need to approve the submitted experience by this date.

Collaboration and dialogue set the tone, as NCARB representatives met with and spoke to architectural professionals of all levels and background across the state of Louisiana.

Architecture professionals from across the country came together in March for a Twitter chat about the 2012 NCARB Practice Analysis of Architecture Survey.

In IDP 2.0, the current seven work settings will be rolled over to three experience settings: A (Practice of Architecture), O (Other Work Settings), and S (Supplemental Experience).
