NCARB Fees

Note: All fees are subject to change, and are non-refundable unless otherwise noted. 

Intern Development Program (IDP)

Intern Application Fee: $350 

This fee keeps your Record active for the first three years and includes one free transmittal of your Record for initial registration.

Student or Recent Graduate (within 6 months): $100 to start + $250 later

If you are a student or have graduated within six months of when you establish an NCARB Record, you may split the application fee into two payments. You may pay $100 when you establish your Record. The balance of $250 will be due when you are ready to have your Record transmitted to a jurisdiction or when you request an Authorization to Test for the Architect Registration Examination® (ARE®).

Intern Annual Renewal Fee: $75 

There is an annual renewal fee assessed after the first three years. It costs $75 each year to maintain an active Record until you become registered.

Please note: If your Record remains continuously active until you receive your initial license, NCARB will waive the Certificate Application Fee of $1,500 (below). In addition, your Certificate Renewal Fee will be half price for the first three years. Learn the benefits of keeping your Record active.

If you have let your Record lapse for any amount of time as an intern and wish to reactivate your Record as an intern, you will be subject to the $75 annual renewal fee for each year or fraction of a year from the date your Record expired, up to a maximum of $425 (equivalent to the $350 Intern Application Fee + a $75 Intern Annual Renewal Fee).

Architect Registration Examination (ARE)

Each Division: $210

Rescheduling Fee: $35
In the event that you need to reschedule an exam division, a $35 rescheduling fee will apply. Rescheduling an existing appointment must take place no later than 12:00 noon ET (Eastern Time) on the third business day prior to the candidate's scheduled appointment. Please note that Saturday is considered a business day.

NCARB Certification

Certificate Application Fee: $1,500

This fee covers one year of NCARB services to compile your NCARB Record and verify your credentials in pursuit of NCARB certification. Once you are approved for certification, this fee also maintains your Certificate in active status for one year.

Please note: All fees assessed by third parties in support of your application are your responsibility (ex. official transcripts fees, license verification fees, etc.).

Discounted Certificate Application Fee: $0 to $1,500
Registered architects who established an NCARB Record as an intern may be eligible for a discount on the $1,500 Certificate Application Fee.

If your Record remains continuously active until you receive your initial license, NCARB will waive the entire Certificate Application Fee of $1,500. In addition your Certificate Renewal Fee will be half price for the first three years.

If your NCARB Record lapsed for any amount of time before or after licensure, the Certificate Application Fee will be $300 for each year or fraction of a year up to a maximum of $1,500.

Certificate Annual Renewal Fee: $225

This fee must be paid each year by registered architects to keep the NCARB Certificate and/or Record in active status.

Reactivation Fee: $250 + all outstanding annual renewal fees

If your NCARB Record lapsed for any amount of time, you must pay a $250 reactivation fee plus all annual renewal fees assessed during the period of inactivity.

Transmittal: $400 

This fee must be paid for each transmittal of your NCARB Record to a U.S. registration board, Canadian provincial association, or foreign regulatory authority entitled under NCARB agreements or policies. You must have an active Record or Certificate to pursue this service. 

Broadly Experienced Architect (BEA)

Education Dossier Review Fee: $5,000
This fee includes one non-refundable format review fee of $500 to verify that format and submission requirements have been met is due upon dossier submission. If you decide to cancel this process before the committee reviews the dossier, $4,500 is refundable.

Dossier Format Review Fee: $500
If your dossiers are not appoved in the format review and you revise and submit new dossiers this fee is due upon dossier submission.

Interview Fee: $2,000
The Interview fee is due approximately six weeks before your scheduled interview.

The BEA Program is being modified to incorporate the verification of responsibility and authorship in the dossier. If you submit a BEA education dossier after 1 June 2011 you will not be required to participate in a face-to-face interview.

Broadly Experienced Foreign Architect (BEFA)

Eligibility Verification Fee: $500
This fee is for review of your official documents to verify your eligibility for the BEFA program is due upon submission of your BEFA Eligibility Verification Form.

Experience Dossier Review Fee: $5,000
This fee includes one non-refundable format review fee of $500 to verify format and submission requirements have been met. Should you decide to cancel this process before the committee reviews the dossier, $4,500 is refundable.

Format Review Fee: $500
If your dossiers are not appoved in the format review and you revise and submit new dossiers this fee is due upon dossier submission.

Interview Fee: $2,000
The Interview Fee is due approximately six weeks before your scheduled interview.

EESA Evaluation

This fee is charged by and paid directly to the NAAB. Please visit the EESA website for current fees.
