In order to be eligible for certification, architects must submit
evidence satisfactory to the Council that they:
1. Comply with the standards for education, training, examination,
and character set forth in the latest edition of NCARB's Handbook
for Interns and Architects (U.S. architects, see Chapter
1; Canadian architects, see Chapter
2).
2. Are registered with a member board at the time of application
and issuance of Council certification and hold the registration
in good standing.
Revoking Certification
The Council may find an architect no longer eligible for certification
if any of the grounds for revocationoutlined beloware
found to exist or if, through references or otherwise, there is
evidence of incompetence, dishonesty or fraud that is not adequately
refuted. The Council will revoke an architect's certification if:
- A member board has revoked (or suspended for a period of 12
months or more) the architect's registration for a cause other
than non-payment of renewal fees or failure to file information
with the member board.
- Facts are subsequently revealed that show that the architect
was actually ineligible at the time of certification.
The Council may revoke an architect's certification if:
- A member board or a court makes a finding, not reversed on
appeal, that the architect has, in the conduct of his/her architectural
practice, violated the law or has engaged in conduct involving
wanton disregard for the rights of others.
- The architect has surrendered or allowed to lapse his/her registration
in connection with disciplinary action pending or threatened.
- A member board has denied the architect registration for a
cause other than the failure to comply with the educational, training,
age, residency, or other technical qualifications for registration
in such jurisdiction.
- The architect has willfully misstated a material fact in a formal
submission to the Council.
Reinstating the Certificate
The Council may reinstate a previously revoked
certification, if the cause of the revocation has been removed,
corrected, or otherwise remedied. An applicant for reinstatement
must meet the eligibility standards for certification in effect
at the time of reinstatement.
Renewal of Council Registration and Certification
A Certificate holder must maintain registration in good standing
with a member board. (If he or she fails to do so, his or her Certificate
will become inactive. To reactivate the Certificate, the architect
must file a Supplement, pay all annual renewal fees and other fees
in arrears, and pay a reactivation fee.)
- Council certification must be renewed annually by submission
of an annual renewal fee ($190) and an annual report
of professional activities during the preceding year, and by maintaining
registration in a member jurisdiction.
- Prior to the renewal date each year, the Council will send each
Certificate holder a statement for the renewal fee and an annual
report form. Payment of the renewal fee and submission of the
annual report are due on or before the indicated date.
- The annual report is added to the Record of the Certificate
holder.
- Failure to meet these requirements will cause the Certificate
to become inactive.
