Member Board Executive Director
Jan B. Simpson was named administrator of the South Carolina Board of Architectural Examiners in August 1994. Since that time, she has actively participated in NCARB Regional meetings and Annual Meetings, serving as workshop presenter and panelist for various topics. Her NCARB committee service includes membership on the Member Board Executives Committee, 2001-2003, chairing it in 2004; the Intern Development Program Committee, 2004-2005; the IDP Coordinating Committee, 2004-2005; NCARB Impediments Task Force, 2006-2007; IDP Advisory Committee 2007-2009; and the Procedures and Documents Committee, 2009-2011. She was awarded the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service to NCARB in 2005 by President Frank Guillot.
Simpson holds a bachelors degree in English from Wesleyan College, Macon, GA. She taught high school English for five years before entering state government service in 1986. She served three licensing Boards in South Carolina before being named administrator to the board of architecture. Additionally, in 2004 she became administrator of the South Carolina Board of Professional Engineers and Surveyors, and in 2010 she was named administrator of the South Carolina Board of Landscape Architectural Examiners.
